Pop
Artist Statement: I took this photo of an old looking apartment in Ann Arbor. I like how the wood gives the appearance that it has been burned. It was a good spot to take it because there weren't lots of trees nearby and it was an open area. I had to take this photo quickly because I didn't want to be in the way of pedestrians. I think this photo conveys a sense of style as well as a sense of simplicity.
Empty Box
Artist Statement: I took this photo of an abandoned house near my friends house. It used to be a very beautiful home but the owners left and now it is all run down. It gives off a weird feel to it because I don't see that many abandoned homes. I had to reshoot for these photos because the first time I included a huge tree right in front of the house. I like how through the top left window you can see the window on the other wall inside.
The Brick
Artist Statement: This is one of my favorite photos because of the reflective windows. The street lamp is especially clear in the blueprint which looks kind of eerie at first. I took these in Ann Arbor while I was driving around with my Mom. This photo was hard to get because it was super cold outside. Also, there were a few pedestrians that I had to avoid from getting in my photos.
The Widow
Artist Statement: I took a photo of this silo which was on pontiac trail. It was right by a neighborhood that was being built and I was scared at first that there would be construction workers who would get mad at me. luckily, there weren't and I was able to take all of my photos. The only hard part about these was the fact that it had just rained and the ground was all muddy. This picture gives off a sense of loneliness because the silo looks like it is all alone in a barren landscape.
The Brick Path
Artist Statement: I took this photo of a church right by my old middle school. I used to pass this church everyday on the way to school but didn't think much of it. The parking lot looks like the asphalt exploded, but the church itself is small and comely. It was hard to take these photos because I didn't want to look weird in front of all of the middle schoolers leaving, but I was ale to get the ones I needed. It makes me feel like doing the best with what I have because I'm sure that's what the people who built the church did.
